Pneuma| Michèle Janata

12.06-16.08.2025
Guest artist: Pascal Decaillet
Artstübli Kunst & Kultur (CH)

The exhibition explores pneuma, the ancient concept of breath and immaterial life force, as an element that connects physical presence with invisible structures of energy, memory, and imagination. Michèle Janata creates sculptural installations that transform hand-blown glass into vibrational fields shaped by light and spatial tension. Through layered transparencies and shifting frequencies, her works become sensorial maps of resonance, tracing connections between the human body and larger cosmic rhythms. Laser projections interact with the surfaces of glass, activating a dynamic interplay of reflection and diffraction. Light functions not as illumination, but as a sculptural material in itself. Her works do not illustrate form, but render visible the ongoing dialogue between matter and spirit, absence and presence.
Pascal Decaillet contributes an olfactory dimension through a series of glass flacons containing handcrafted fragrances. Drawing on ancestral scent practices and shamanic plant knowledge, his work engages scent as a mnemonic and affective carrier, opening pathways to memory and subconscious states.

The exhibition unfolds in two temporal registers. During the day, it reveals fragile optical landscapes. At night, hidden frequencies emerge through light and shadow, transforming the space into a living organism.
Developed in the wake of both artists’ travels to Colombia, the exhibition becomes a multisensory meditation on cosmology, ancestral knowledge, and the vitality of invisible forces. Each temporal mode—day and night—unveils distinct perceptual and atmospheric dimensions.
